SYARAT DARI SUATU KODE
- Sederhana, jelas dan mudah dimengerti
- Cepat menimbulkan reaksi tindakan
- Tidak menimbulkan pengertian yang lain atau berbeda
- Harus disosialisasikan

KODE MATERIAL
- Kode material biasanya digunakan untuk memberikan kode pada material atau peralatan
- Umumnya kode material menggunakan angka atau gabungan huruf dan angka.
BARANG APA SAJA YANG BISA DIBERI KODE MATERIAL ?
Walaupun pada prinsipnya semua barang dapat diberi kode material, tetapi kita harus selektif dalam memberi kode material. Barang yang sudah menjadi STANDARD perusahaan, atau merupakan STOCK ITEM saja yang kita beri kode material. Sedang untuk direct charge item tidak perlu. Kalau tetap diminta, cukup diberi kode terbatas.

Sub-sub Grup MESCode menjelaskan uraian/ description yang lebih terinci dari sub grup dari material/peralatan dimaksud, seperti cara/sistim penyambungan atau penjelasan tentang type/model dari suatu peralatan

Nomor item untuk mengidentifikasi material itu sendiri yang sering juga disebut individual item.Pada umumnya Nomor Item menunjukkan : nama barang (suku cadang) ukuran (line pipe) warna (cat) kemasan (oil) urutan kelompok (suku cadang) urutan abjad (sukucadang Caterpillar

Sasaran dari MESCode antara lain;
1. Mempermudah identifikasi material dengan uraian yang jelas
2. Mempermudah komunikasi, mengurangi kesulitan bahasa
3. Memberi dasar yang teratur dan sistimatika penyusunan material di gudang dan yard
4. Memudahkan penyusunan / penyimpan material yang sama tetapi kemasan berbeda (Unit Of Issue)
5. Memudahkan interchangeabilityDasar penyusunan dan pembukuan stock pada online system
6. Mempermudah pelaksanaan review oleh stock analyst
7. Memudahkan pengelolaan material dan informasi data untuk fungsi terkait melalui online system
MESCode harus selalu di maintain maksud- nya bila ada material yang sudah obsollete , supaya diusulkan hapus , dan MESCode- nya pun dihapus.
Sebaliknya bila ada material baru yang sudah resmi menjadi standard perusahaan agar diproses MESCode-nya
Penggunaan lain dari MESCode digunakan untuk impor barang untuk keperluan perminyakan dimana MESCode harus dicantumkan pada Rencana Impor Barang dan Master ListKode Material juga digunakan untuk mengontrol penggunaan Anggaran Material oleh Keuangan
